B1 · Lição 4: Voz Passiva (Passive Voice)

Objetivos da lição

  • Entender a diferença entre voz ativa e passiva
  • Formar a voz passiva em diferentes tempos verbais
  • Saber quando usar a voz passiva

Explicação

Na voz ativa, o sujeito pratica a ação. Na voz passiva, o sujeito recebe a ação.

Ativa: Shakespeare wrote Hamlet. (Shakespeare = quem pratica a ação) Passiva: Hamlet was written by Shakespeare. (Hamlet = quem recebe a ação)

Estrutura geral: objeto (da ativa) + to be (no tempo verbal desejado) + particípio passado + (by + agente, opcional)

1. Voz passiva em diferentes tempos

Tempo verbal Ativa Passiva
Presente simples They make cars here. Cars are made here.
Passado simples They built this house in 1990. This house was built in 1990.
Presente contínuo They are building a new bridge. A new bridge is being built.
Present perfect They have canceled the flight. The flight has been canceled.
Futuro (will) They will announce the results. The results will be announced.
Modais (can, must...) They must finish the project. The project must be finished.

2. Quando usar a voz passiva

  • Quando quem faz a ação não é importante ou é desconhecido:

My phone was stolen. → Meu celular foi roubado. (não sabemos/importa quem roubou)

  • Quando queremos focar na ação ou no resultado, não em quem faz:

English is spoken in many countries. → Inglês é falado em muitos países.

  • Em textos formais, científicos e notícias:

The experiment was conducted carefully. → O experimento foi conduzido com cuidado.

  • Quando o agente é óbvio ou repetitivo:

He was arrested yesterday. (obviamente pela polícia)

3. Usando "by" (quando o agente importa)

The Mona Lisa was painted by Leonardo da Vinci. → A Mona Lisa foi pintada por Leonardo da Vinci. (aqui o agente é relevante e interessante)

4. Passiva com verbos de dois objetos

Ativa: They gave her an award. Passiva: She was given an award. (mais comum) ou An award was given to her.

Vocabulário: Verbos comuns em notícias (frequentes na passiva)

announce (anunciar), build (construir), cancel (cancelar), discover (descobrir), invent (inventar), produce (produzir), publish (publicar), found (fundar), destroy (destruir), injure (ferir)

Prática: Exemplos de notícias

A new vaccine has been developed by scientists. The bridge was destroyed during the storm. Three people were injured in the accident. The company was founded in 1998.
