C1 · Lição 2: Subjuntivo e Estruturas Especiais (as if, it's time, would rather)
Objetivos da lição
- Usar o modo subjuntivo (subjunctive) em inglês formal
- Usar "as if / as though" para comparações hipotéticas
- Usar "it's (high) time" e "would rather/sooner"
Explicação
1. Subjuntivo (Subjunctive Mood)
Estrutura: verbo (suggest/recommend/demand/insist/require + that) + sujeito + verbo no infinitivo sem "to" (sem conjugar, mesmo com he/she/it!)
| Verbo | Exemplo |
|---|---|
| suggest | The doctor suggested that he rest for a week. |
| recommend | I recommend that she see a specialist. |
| demand | They demanded that he apologize immediately. |
| insist | She insisted that we join them for dinner. |
| require | The rule requires that every student submit the form. |
| propose | He proposed that the meeting be postponed. |
Repare: "that he rest" (não "rests"), "that she see" (não "sees"), o verbo fica na forma-base, independente do sujeito. Essa é a marca do subjuntivo.
Forma negativa do subjuntivo: not + verbo
The manager insisted that she not be late again.
No inglês britânico informal, é comum usar "should + verbo" no lugar do subjuntivo puro: The doctor suggested that he should rest. (igualmente correto, mais comum no dia a dia)
2. As if / As though: comparações hipotéticas
He talks as if he knew everything. → Ele fala como se soubesse tudo. (mas provavelmente não sabe) She looked as if she had seen a ghost. It looks as though it's going to rain. → Parece que vai chover. (situação real/provável, presente simples ok aqui)
Quando a comparação é claramente falsa/hipotética, usa-se past simple ou past perfect (mesmo se for sobre o presente): "He acts as if he were the boss" (mas ele não é).
3. It's (high) time: já era hora de
Estrutura: It's (high/about) time + sujeito + verbo no passado simples (mas com sentido de presente/futuro!)
It's time we left. → Já é hora de irmos. It's high time you started taking this seriously.
4. Would rather / would sooner: preferência
Estrutura 1 (própria ação): would rather + verbo no infinitivo sem "to"
I'd rather stay home tonight. → Eu prefiro ficar em casa hoje à noite.
Estrutura 2 (ação de outra pessoa): would rather + sujeito + verbo no passado simples (sentido de presente/futuro)
I'd rather you didn't tell anyone. She'd rather he called her first.
to insist (insistir), to demand (exigir), preference (preferência), hypothetical (hipotético)
Prática
