A2 · Lição 4: Modais: Must, Should, Have to

Objetivos da lição

  • Expressar obrigação, necessidade e conselho
  • Diferenciar must, have to e should
  • Falar sobre regras e recomendações

Explicação

1. Must: obrigação forte / regra (geralmente do próprio falante)

You must wear a seatbelt. → Você deve usar cinto de segurança. (regra/lei) I must finish this report today. → Eu preciso terminar este relatório hoje. (obrigação pessoal forte)

Negativa, mustn't = proibição:

You mustn't smoke here. → Você não pode/deve fumar aqui. (é proibido!)

2. Have to: obrigação externa (regra imposta por outra pessoa/situação)

Estrutura: sujeito + have/has to + verbo

I have to work on Saturdays. → Eu tenho que trabalhar aos sábados. (meu chefe exige) She has to wear a uniform at school. → Ela tem que usar uniforme na escola.

Negativa, don't/doesn't have to = NÃO é necessário (mas pode fazer se quiser)

You don't have to come if you're tired. → Você não precisa vir se estiver cansado. (é opcional!)

Repare a diferença: mustn't (proibido) ≠ don't have to (não é obrigatório, mas pode)

3. Should: conselho / recomendação

Estrutura: sujeito + should + verbo (mesma forma para todos os pronomes)

You should study more before the exam. → Você deveria estudar mais antes da prova. (conselho) He shouldn't eat so much sugar. → Ele não deveria comer tanto açúcar. Should I call her? → Eu deveria ligar para ela?
