  • Revisar modais avançados (needn't have, should have, etc.)

Explicação

1. Verbos seguidos de gerúndio (V-ing)

enjoy, avoid, finish, mind, suggest, consider, imagine, deny, admit, practice, keep (on), give up, can't help

I enjoy reading before bed. → Eu gosto de ler antes de dormir. She avoided answering the question. → Ela evitou responder a pergunta. Would you mind closing the door? → Você se importaria de fechar a porta?

2. Verbos seguidos de infinitivo (to + verbo)

want, need, decide, plan, hope, promise, agree, refuse, manage, afford, learn, seem, offer, expect

I want to travel next year. → Eu quero viajar no ano que vem. She decided to quit her job. → Ela decidiu pedir demissão. He refused to apologize. → Ele se recusou a pedir desculpas.

I stopped smoking. (parei de fumar) I stopped to smoke.
I remember locking the door. (lembro que tranquei) I remembered to lock the door. (lembrei de trancar)
try tentar/experimentar algo (teste) tentar (esforço para conseguir)
Try restarting the computer. (experimente reiniciar) I tried to open the door but couldn't.
I'll never forget visiting Paris. Don't forget to call me.

4. Modais avançados de crítica e retrospecto

Modal Significado Exemplo
should have + p.p. crítica: algo que era certo fazer, mas não foi feito You should have told me earlier.
shouldn't have + p.p. crítica: algo errado que foi feito You shouldn't have said that.
You needn't have brought a gift, but thanks!
didn't need to + verbo ação desnecessária (não se sabe se foi feita) I didn't need to go to the store (não fui/não sabemos).
could have + p.p. possibilidade não realizada She could have won, but she gave up.

Diferença sutil: "needn't have brought a gift" (você trouxe, mas não precisava) x "didn't need to bring a gift" (não era necessário, pode ou não ter trazido).

Vocabulário

criticism (crítica), hindsight (retrospecto), unnecessary (desnecessário), effort (esforço)
